Under 15 President's Cup Final

Under 15 President's Cup Final

MALTON & Old Malton beat holders York by one run in a nail-biting York & District Junior Cricket Association Under-15s President’s Cup final at Clifton Alliance.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the Ryedale side made a good start to their innings, with openers Mathew Butler (47) and Morgan Fraser (34) putting on 63. York spinner Tom Spearman then helped to stem the flow of runs, bowling tidily and ending with figures of 1-11 from his four overs. Bradley Freer then contributed a fluent 26 not out to help his side to reach 135-4 at the end of their 20 overs.

The York reply was dealt an early setback when Keiron Bloor was bowled by Ryan Gaughan for 11, but a stand of 75 between Richard Brown (53 retired) and Cameron Burdass (33) meant York were neck and neck with Malton’s run rate.

However, a York collapse, caused by tight bowling from Toby Sercombe (2-22) and George Ullyott (1-16), handed Malton victory after York lost six wickets, including three runouts, for eight runs. That left York requiring 11 runs off the last over and they could only manage nine.

The trophy and medals were presented by Paul Wilkinson, chairman of the York & District Junior Cricket Association.
